Import & export your data
Import & export your data
Section titled “Import & export your data”Your analytics data is yours. MetriXs lets you bring your historical data in when you switch, and take everything back out whenever you want.
Both features live in one place: Settings → Sites → Import & export under the site you want to work with.
Import historical data
Section titled “Import historical data”Three sources are supported: Plausible, Google Analytics 4 and Simple Analytics. All three end up in your dashboard alongside the data MetriXs collects natively, so graphs, summary cards, breakdowns, comparisons, PDF reports and integrations keep working across the whole history.
From Plausible
Section titled “From Plausible”- In your Plausible dashboard, open Site settings → Imports & exports, click Export to CSV, and download the zip.
- In MetriXs, go to Settings → Sites, expand Import & export for the matching site, and upload the zip.
The import runs in the background; the panel shows the progress and the final
result (status, date range, pageviews). The export contains daily totals plus
per-source, page, device, browser, operating system, country, city,
entry/exit page and goal breakdowns — all of it is imported. Plausible CSV
files in their imported_* format (for example from a Google Analytics
import you ran inside Plausible) are accepted too. What is not imported:
custom event properties (custom_props.csv) and commerce revenue.
From Google Analytics 4
Section titled “From Google Analytics 4”- In GA4, export the reports you want as CSV (Reports → share → export): a daily report (add “Date” as a secondary dimension in any report that has Users and Sessions), plus optionally Pages, Traffic source, Devices, Countries and Events.
- Upload the CSV files (select them all at once) in the same Import & export panel.
GA4 exports in your property’s display language; switch the property language to English before exporting, or the column headers cannot be recognized. GA4 has no bounce rate and no pageviews in its daily export, so bounce rate is derived from the engagement rate and pageviews are scaled from the Pages report. Entry/exit pages do not exist in GA4 exports and stay empty. Events are imported as goals.
From Simple Analytics
Section titled “From Simple Analytics”Simple Analytics cannot track returning visitors (their “visitors” are referrer-based unique pageviews), so imported visitor and visit counts are the same. Two ways to import:
- CSV upload: export your data in the Simple Analytics dashboard and upload the CSV file(s).
- API fetch: expand Import from Simple Analytics via the API, enter your hostname plus User-Id and Api-Key (shown in their “Export your data” screen) and the date range. The data is fetched once and the key is never stored.
Exit pages are not part of the Simple Analytics export and stay empty. Events are imported as goals.
How MetriXs avoids double counting
Section titled “How MetriXs avoids double counting”The import only covers days before the first day MetriXs collected data natively for the site. If your Plausible export overlaps native data, the overlapping days are skipped and the panel shows the range that was actually imported. A second import that overlaps an existing import is rejected. This mirrors how Plausible itself handles imports, so you can move to MetriXs and later to another tool without any day counted twice.
Include or exclude imported data
Section titled “Include or exclude imported data”Sites with imported data show an “Include imported data” toggle at the top of the dashboard. It is on by default; turn it off to see only the data MetriXs collected natively. The dashboard remembers your choice per browser.
Two things worth knowing about imported data:
- Cross-dimension filters (for example filtering by source and device at the same time) are proportional approximations for the imported period. The source tools never recorded those combinations together. Per-dimension breakdowns, totals and trends are exact.
- Hours of the day are spread over a typical daily traffic pattern, since the export has no hour granularity.
Delete an import
Section titled “Delete an import”In the Import & export panel, each import row has a Delete action. Deleting removes the imported data for that batch only; natively collected data is never touched.
Export your data
Section titled “Export your data”The Download CSV export button in the same panel produces a zip with every piece of data MetriXs collected natively for the site:
visitors.csv: daily visitors, pageviews, visits, bounce rate and visit duration,- per-page, entry-page, exit-page, source, device, browser, operating system, country, city and UTM breakdowns,
conversions.csv: goals with unique and total conversions.
The format matches Plausible’s export shape, so the file can be re-imported into other tools that understand it (and into Plausible, if you ever move back). Imported data is deliberately not part of the export, so an export can be re-imported elsewhere without double counting. MetriXs never holds your data hostage: export is available on every plan, with no waiting period.
Tips for a clean switch
Section titled “Tips for a clean switch”- Add the MetriXs tracker first (Settings → Sites → Install & verify), so native data starts flowing the same day.
- Export from Plausible once, then import it. Days already covered natively are skipped automatically.
- Leave the “Include imported data” toggle on to see the full timeline, or off when you want to judge MetriXs’ own numbers only.
